This memorial website was created to remember our dearest Curt Fenske.
You will live forever in our memories and hearts.
Please feel free to add pictures, memories, and condolences. The Family will be updating this site with new pictures and memories so please come back and visit. I know Curt had a lot of friends and we may not have been able to contact everyone. I hope this site gives us all a chance to come together again.
Curt died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 20, 2008 after a short battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his sister, Louise Flanders. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Fenske of Carlsbad and his brother Matthew G. Fenske and sister-in-law Rachel Fenske of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Curt was born on October 11, 1957 in San Francisco and graduated from South Tahoe High School in 1975. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Chico State University and went on to be the Director of Operations of Unilab of San Jose.
Curt was very active in the Santa Cruz community. He was involved in the Santa Cruz AIDS Project and directed the Gay Evening in May event for several years. He loved to travel and enjoyed taking cruises with his family and friends. He loved the sea and visited Hawaii often.
The family would like to thank all those who are organ donors, as Curt was the recipient of a heart transplant in 1996 that gave him 12 additional years of life. The family is grateful for all the support that was provided to him by his friends during this time. He enjoyed every day of his life and lived to the fullest.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the California Transplant Organ Network, 1000 Broadway, Suite 600, Oakland, CA 94607.
Curt's wish was to have his ashes spread in Hawaii off Diamond Head. We chartered a sailboat and held a ceremony on the sea off of Diamond head and Waikiki beach. Thank you to everyone who was able to share that moment with us and who sent us their thoughts and prayers on June 10, 2009. I have some pictures of our trip to Oahu on my facebook site (look up matthew fenske on facebook).
